New COVID-19 Subclass 408 visa
Employees in essential services who cannot depart Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic, may be able to apply for the Government’s new Covid-19 stream of the subclass 408 temporary visa. Visa eligibility and duration will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Temporary visa holders in Australia, who are unable to depart Australia due to travel restrictions or apply for another visa, may be eligible for a Subclass 408 Temporary Activities visa under the Australian Government Endorsed Event Stream (Covid-19 Event).
This Australian Government Endorsed Event (EGEE) stream is intended to assist critical sectors of the economy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minimum Requirements
As a visa applicant you must:
- hold a temporary visa;
- be unable to depart Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic;
- have no other temporary visa option available;
- have employment in a critical sector:
- Healthcare
- Disability and aged care
- Childcare
- Agriculture
- have a current visa that expires in less than 28 days or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago
Working Holidays Visa Holders
Working holiday visa holders employed in critical sectors who have not completed the 3 or 6 months of specified work required to apply for a second or third Working holiday visa, and who are unable to leave Australia, may also be eligible.
