Tourism and Hospitality visa
Businesses in Tourism and Hospitality who are struggling to find workers can now access the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa.
The Department of Home Affairs has announced that Tourism and Hospitality have been added to the critical sectors (previously only included agriculture, food processing, health care, aged care, disability care and child care).
Temporary visa holders who are employed in the tourism and hospitality sector are now able to access the 408 visa under the government endorsed stream for a period of 12 months.
General requirements:
- hold a substantive visa that will expire in 90 days (or your last visa expired less than 28 days ago);
- not eligible for any other work visa;
- work in a critical sector (including tourism and hospitality)
- have an offer of employment
International Students
International students who work in the Tourism and Hospitality industry have now been granted unlimited work rights (previously a cap of 40 hours of work a fortnight was imposed on their student visa). The government has removed this cap in a bid to boost the tourism and hospitality sectors.
