Coronavirus COVID-19
With the COVID-19 outbreak, countries around the world including Australia are taking steps to minimise the impact of the spread for public health and economic reasons. These unprecedented measures include travel bans, the closure of airports and national lockdowns.
Travel – Australians
The Department of Home Affairs and Trade has raised its travel advice to the highest level (level 4 of 4) ‘do not travel overseas at this time’.
Regardless of your destination, age or health, do not travel at this time.
If you are already overseas and wish to return to Australia, you may do so as soon as possible by commercial means. Note that overseas travel is becoming increasingly ‘more complex and difficult’ and you may find that it is not possible to return.
For those able to secure a flight to Australia, you will now be required to self-isolate for 14 days. This applies to all travellers, including Australian citizens.
Travel – Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals (excluding permanent residents of Australia) who have been to the following countries will not be allowed to enter Australia for 14 days from the time they have left or transited through those countries
- China
- Iran
- Republic of Korea
- Italy
Australian citizens and permanent residents will still be able to enter, as will their immediate family members (spouse, legal guardians or dependents).
