Italy added to coronavirus travel ban
Foreign citizens will be prevented from arriving in Australia from Italy in the federal government’s latest extension of coronavirus travel ban.
The travel ban will come into force at 6 pm, Wednesday 11th of March, adding to bans on travel from mainland China, Iran and South Korea.
Previously arrivals from Italy had been required to undergo ‘enhanced screening’ at airports. This week Italy’s own government placed its entire population under lock down.
Already there are more than 10,000 confirmed cases in Italy and at least 630 deaths.
Anyone arriving form Italy who is not an Australian citizen or permanent resident would be blocked from arriving, and those who are granted permission to enter would be subject to 14 days of self-isolation.
Immi Law’s advice is that temporary visa holders return to Australia immediately if overseas in countries where the coronavirus is developing (Japan, France, Germany) to avoid being caught in potential future travel bans.
