Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) 400

If your visit to Australia will include more than just meetings or attending seminars, you may need to consider a visa that allows you to work.

The Temporary Work (400) visa may suit your needs if you have specialist skills, knowledge or experience that is needed by an Australian business on a non-ongoing basis (for example: a one-off period of less than 6 months) and cannot be reasonably sourced in the Australian labour market.

General Requirements

As the visa applicant, you must:

  • have skills, knowledge or experience to do the proposed work;
  • have a letter of offer or contract for the employment period;
  • in some cases, show that the work and/or skills cannot be sourced locally;

This visa may include your family members (spouses and children), however they will not have work or study rights in Australia. You will only be permitted to work in the position/work identified in the visa application.

If you are an entertainer, or support crew for an entertainer, performing in Australia or will work on a production for viewing/listening in Australia, you will need to apply for the Temporary Activities (408) visa in the Entertainment stream.

If you are seeking a longer-term visa solution, you will need to consider an Employer Sponsored visa or Business visa.
